My father in law loves blue grass musice and plays the banjo. He is kind of hard to shop for , I want to think of something he would really love or get use from. I do not know much about blue grass at all – any suggestions.

Bela Fleck, one of the great banjo players, has a DVD called "Throw Down Your Heart" about the history and development of the banjo. You can get it from Target.
