    The popularization of country music had a profound effect on bluegrass. If you listen to most modern country artists, they sound very poppy, whereas artists 40 or 50 years ago tended to have more of that twangy sound. Country was formed from bluegrass, which itself has roots in celtic music, but modern society really shuns anything that has to do with the south/Appalachia… the residents there and their associated culture (including music) has become an object of ridicule for much of the rest of the country.
