I want an Internet Radio receiver that isn’t depend ant on a computer for Internet Radio listening.Any advice?

I would like to buy a stand alone internet radio receiver. I know they make them. They receive Internet Radio but they do not require the use of a PC.

I feel this would be the best thing as I have looked at Satalite Radio systems and they don’t have certain stations I want, and they also have subscription fees. Internet Radio would not have fees for listening to various stations. You could get any station that is available on the Internet.

Any advice on where to look for one of these? Which one should I get?

The only device I can think of does NOT require a computer but it does require a network. No player is going to pick up Internet radio without some type of internet connection. It also comes programmed for over 1000 internet radio stations.

First of all there’s Yahoo Launch Cast. It’s free up to (I think) 250 songs a month. Beyond that, there’s a membership fee.

I am going to be majoring in music (vocal performance) at Florida State University next year. They claim to be the 5th best music school in the nation. I am curious to know some of the other top music schools. I’ve googled it several times and I can’t seem to find the information I want. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

The book — Fiske Guide to Colleges — has a listing of top/strongest private and public schools for a few majors, including the arts, and performing arts. It isn’t a ranking per se and doesn’t include all schools in the country, but should give you some perspective. You can find the book at almost any library.

I looked up the lyrics to a song once, and the lyrics on that website were horribly WRONG! Does anyone know a reliable website for music lyrics? I don’t want to blurt out the wrong lyrics!

So far Metrolyrics.com has been good. But remember, random people send in these lyrics to the websites.

My father in law loves blue grass musice and plays the banjo. He is kind of hard to shop for , I want to think of something he would really love or get use from. I do not know much about blue grass at all – any suggestions.

I am a songwriter who has a lot of good ideas in my head that are of the hip hop style of music. I use a lot of different synthesizers in my kind of music and use electronic drums as well. what I want to know is what kind of songwriting software would be best for hip hop music.

What is the perfect stereotypical country music song that praises big, gas guzzling cars?

I’m working on a film that deals with fossil fuels and carbon emissions, and I think it would be perfect if I had a great country music song in the background talking about big cars. the only problem is that I don’t listen to country at all.

Another song you might want to find is "Lord Mr. Ford" by Jerry Reed. The final verse says, "How I yearn for the good old days without that carbon dioxide haze hanging over the roll of the interstate."

Which site is best for downloading indie music for free? A site that’s really cheap would be appreciated also. And please don’t recommend limewire or any like that.
I live on a college campus, so I need a site that won’t get me in trouble with the network also for downloading too large of file sizes…

Take a look at the music download sites listed on www.mp3obsession.com
They are all legal, safe, virus free and work with any mp3 player, including iPods.
They aren’t free to download from though, songs are 5¢ each, but you can get some good freebies when you register with them.

Is classical music relevant to the rock music we listen to today?

I want to apply for the Arts Concentration program at my school for music, which puts a lot of emphasis on the classical genre.

I was just wondering, how relevant is classical music to rock, alternative, hard rock, and metal? I know the rules of music should apply to all genres, but will I be able to apply what I learn about classical music to the rock music I hope to compose in the future?

The answer is most definitely yes. Classical music is the basis for all music we here today. Take rock music for example: Your basic rock or pop song is composed of a verse, then refrain, verse, refrain, bridge/modulation, refrain. This is pure music theory. By studying the music theory behind this simple formula, you will understand why the chords work the way they work, why they sound the way they do, and where the music can lead you. You can also learn alternative progressions, rather than just the standard I-IV-V-I progression.

On top of this, by knowing music theory, you will be able to look at any piece of music and be able to analyze it. For example, you will be able to tell where the bridge is by a quick glance, what the song sounds like, and also be able to easily find mistakes.

All the good rock, alternative and other popular musicians have a good sense of classical music. I know of many who have, or currently study classical music, and classical voice training, including Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Cyndi Lauper, Christina Aguilera, and Billie Joe Armstrong (Lead for Green Day). They have spoken numerous times about the value of knowing about classical music and theory.

Also, by knowing about music theory and they historical progression of music, you will be able to further explore in your compositions to provide for unique compositions that can define you on a higher level, rather than just the standard "norm" in the current music scenes.
