If you are on a budget get #1 or #3:

If you have the $$$ and are really serious about songwriting / composing, get #2.
However, there is one program that is better than all of these. It’s really good, I’ve used it myself, it’s super affordable, costs like $49, check it out:

Well depends on what style of Hip-Hop you make. If you make MPC style Hip-hop for example then you cant go wrong with an old MPC and a 16 track recorder (hardware) and mix it on a PC. If you want to be a bit more professional (you can obviously still use an MPC)then go for Sonar or Cubase…Don’t be tempted to go down the route of Pro-tools, lots of people will disagree as pro-tools is a standard but you can hear when something is made from pro-tools and I find it cluttered…(people will eat me alive for saying that) But I’ve used everything even Acid and Fruity loops which are great if your a beginner and want to make simple beats and loops..The reason I like Sonar so much particularly Sonar 4 is that its so uncluttered don’t be tempted also down the route where you start to think you need a million plug-ins…Waves are a brilliant example of that, tons of plug-ins few that really do anything. If you’ve got a good ear you can make amazing music with the most basic plug-ins, a good reverb, delay and most importantly an EQ plus some others like a spectral analysis (great for when you do mixes and you have a reference tune to mix to) . Plus the more crap you put in your way the less you make music you’ll be spending time trying to learn what this or that does. And also dont be fooled by quick fix VST’s that say they can make your bass fatter or bigger some do work but instead why not make your own sub from a sine wave and lay it under your kicks. plug-ins and add on and "fancy software" do nothing but cloud your judgement and make a mess of what your doing and one last thing as I said before always, always use a reference Hope that helps.

FL Studio without a doubt. You can make drum beats quickly with it with its built in step sequencer. Other more expensive software don’t even have that. it’s pathetic how many steps, plugins, ect… you need to lay a drum beat. With FL, it’s quick, easy and effective…drag and drop.

10% instant discount for new customers here: https://support.image-line.com/jshop/shop.php?offer=Default&promo=BFHEHAH486
FL 9 is coming out in September. you will get it free if you buy FL 8 (Current version) since Image-Line gives lifetime free updates on all their software.
book mark that discount in case you decide to buy it later. it saves a you a bit of money. enough that you can even buy a sample CD or something.
good luck, have fun
